Top Sports Events in Slovenia in 2026

Slovenia will once again stand at the forefront of world-class sport in 2026. A rich calendar of major domestic and international sporting events promote Slovenian tourism, strength the I feel Slovenia brand, reaffirms the country’s reputation as a trusted host of high-profile competitions, while also underlining its appeal as a destination for active experiences and sports tourism.

 

Renowned not only for its excellent event organisation but also for its outstanding athletes, Slovenia consistently competes for medals at the highest international level. The year ahead promises another dynamic sporting chapter—discover what awaits in 2026.

Top winter sports venues in Slovenia

During the winter months, Slovenia will once again become a focal point for winter sports enthusiasts. Fans will be able to cheer on their sporting heroes at World Cup venues in alpine skiing, ski jumping, cross-country skiing, biathlon and snowboarding, complemented by a number of accompanying events.

Winter 2026 will also be defined by the global sporting highlight of the year: the 2026 Winter Olympics, taking place from 6 to 22 February. Slovenian athletes will be among the competitors, with strong medal hopes across several disciplines.

In January and February, Ljubljana’s Stožice Arena will additionally host part of the matches of the UEFA European Futsal Championship.


Spring and summer sporting highlights

As the seasons change, spring and summer will bring an equally diverse programme of outdoor sporting events. From major running and cycling races to team and individual sports, Slovenia will continue to attract athletes, fans and visitors from around the world.

Sports enthusiasts will have at least two excellent reasons to visit Slovenia in autumn. In October, Slovenia will host two European Championships: the European Road Cycling Championship and the European Table Tennis Championship.

Slovenia will also welcome several other European and World Championships in 2026. In April, women’s national teams will compete at the IIHF Women’s World Championship Division II. Early June will see elite mountain and trail runners gather for the European Mountain Running and Trail Running Championships. Toward the end of summer, two World Championships will follow: the Summer Biathlon World Championships at Pokljuka and the World Rowing Masters Regatta in early September in Bled.

I feel Slovenia at international sporting events

The Slovenian Tourist Board recognises the strategic importance of elite Slovenian athletes and international sporting events in enhancing the country’s global visibility. These events enrich the tourism offer while reinforcing Slovenia’s image as a sustainable, green and active destination, firmly anchored in the values and identity of I Feel Slovenia as the sport destination.

In 2026, STB is expected to support around 70 international sporting events hosted across Slovenia. A public call remains open for organisers of international sporting events, with a focus on promoting Slovenian tourism and strengthening the I feel Slovenia brand.
