Arts and Culture Experience: A Guide to Creative Slovenia

The new flagship thematic guide presents Slovenia as a contemporary, vibrant and culturally rich tourism destination. Through a carefully curated selection of compelling cultural and artistic experiences, it invites visitors to explore human-centred cities, hubs of contemporary creativity, historic towns and distinctive heritage and cultural landscapes across the country. The guide is available in Slovenian, English, German and Italian language. It is freely accessible online in PDF format, while the printed edition will accompany Slovenia’s presentations at major tourism and leisure fairs already in January!

A dedicated chapter highlights the unique character of Slovenian cities shaped to make people feel good. It introduces Slovenian modernism and encourages discovery along a cultural transversal linking the nation’s urban centres. The transformative power of art offers insight into contemporary artistic production, festivals, galleries, performing arts and intermedia practices. Journeys through time lead visitors to historic towns, cultural heritage and stories that connect the past with present-day life. The guide portrays Slovenia as a “triangle of happiness,” where culture is constantly interwoven with nature and outdoor experiences, gastronomy and well-being.

The content is enriched by stories of exceptional individuals – architect Jože Plečnik, painter and graphic artist Zoran Mušič, and world traveller and writer Alma M. Karlin – each of whom left a lasting mark on Slovenia’s creativity, openness and distinctive identity. The guide also directs readers towards discovering many other influential creators who have shaped the country’s cultural landscape.

The brochure’s concept is grounded in the strategic Guidelines supporting the marketing of arts and culture and aligns with the Slovenian Tourist Board’s main communication theme, which continues to place arts and culture at the core of tourism promotion as a key travel motivation for contemporary visitors also in 2026. The creation of the brochure brought together a wide range of institutions, organisations and individuals.
