Arboretum Volčji Potok Memory Path for People with Dementia

A new Memory Path for people with memory difficulties and dementia is now open at Volčji Potok Arboretum. The safe, accessible trail fosters connection, well-being and the joy of nature.

Volčji Potok Arboretum has unveiled the Memory Path as a space designed for individuals living with memory challenges and dementia, along with their families and caregivers. The 1,000-metre circular trail provides a secure, calming environment where visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature in every season, spend quality time together, and take part in activities that encourage social interaction and support mental and physical health.

The route can be extended to the gallery and café, with additional support such as wheelchair rentals or special sensory baskets available. By prior arrangement, visitors may also be accompanied by a volunteer or a trained dementia guide.

Created to encourage intergenerational connections, the Memory Path can be enjoyed individually or in guided groups of up to ten people. Group walks include sensory experiences such as engaging with nature through smell, touch, and sound, creating natural rhythms, listening to stories and songs, and capturing memories through photography.

With this initiative, Volčji Potok Arboretum strengthens its role as a place of inclusion and well-being, combining the restorative power of nature with meaningful social experiences. The Memory Path enriches the Arboretum’s offering and provides important support to those affected by dementia and their loved ones.
