Kamnik Celebrated 52nd Days of Clothing Heritage

From September 12 to 14, 2025, Kamnik celebrated tradition in grand style, with Slovenia’s largest ethnological festival - the 52nd Days of National Costumes and Clothing Heritage.

From September 12 to 14, Kamnik will once again shine in the rhythms of tradition, colour and festivity as it hosts the 52nd Days of National Costumes and Clothing Heritage, Slovenia’s largest ethnological festival. Tens of thousands of visitors and over 2,000 participants from Slovenia and abroad are expected to take part in this celebration of cultural heritage, music, dance, and gastronomy.

This year’s featured region is Bela krajina, known for its distinctive national costume of white linen garments, headscarves, and aprons. Visitors can also discover its “pisanice” Easter eggs, decorated with traditional wax patterns, and taste the beloved Belokranjska pogača flatbread during live baking workshops at Mekinje Monastery. Festival stalls will showcase regional crafts and specialties, adding to the sensory richness of the event.

The three-day programme combines folk performances, craft demonstrations, culinary workshops, concerts, and the highlight of the festival — the Parade of National Costumes on Sunday, September 14, when more than 2,000 participants in traditional dress will fill Kamnik’s streets. Groups from Croatia, Latvia, Germany, and Serbia will join Slovenian ensembles.

Beyond the performances, visitors can explore a lively craft market, enjoy demonstrations of flax and wool processing, and experience traditional music ranging from accordions to tamburitzas. Concerts by popular Slovenian singers will ensure evenings end on a high note.

Organised by the Kamnik Tourism and Sports Agency in cooperation with the Municipality of Kamnik, the festival has evolved since its beginnings in 1966 into a vibrant meeting point of heritage and community. With free admission and an atmosphere that unites old and new, local and global, the Days of National Costumes and Clothing Heritage remain a proud showcase of Slovenia’s identity and living traditions.
