150 Years of Tourism in Slovenia’s Logar Valley, 100 Years of the Solčava Road, 30 Years of Hotel Plesnik

Nestled in Slovenia’s breathtaking Logar Valley, the family-run Hotel Plesnik has marked a year of milestones – celebrating 150 years of tourism in the valley, a century since the first road opened to this Alpine gem, and 30 years since the hotel’s own grand reopening.

This August, Plesnik Hotel in Logar valley marked three significant anniversaries: 150 years of tourism in the Logar Valley, 100 years since the opening of the first road from Solčava to the valley and 30 years since the reopening of the hotel.

The celebrations, held on the last weekend of August, brought together around 200 distinguished guests from politics, business, the arts, science and mountaineering, among them also MSc. Maja Pak Olaj, Director of the Slovenian Tourist Board, who praised the Plesnik family on their milestone anniversaries and acknowledged their significant role in advancing Slovenian tourism and its reputation as a sustainable, boutique destination. The festive evenings, which included a premiere screening of a documentary film about the rich history of the Savinja Alps and the Logar Valley, highlighted the region’s unique cultural and natural heritage. Guests also had the opportunity to explore the newly published book Povesti s Plesti, which tells the story of the Plesnik family and the development of tourism in this breathtaking Alpine valley.

Plesnik Hotel has long been synonymous with boutique hospitality in Slovenia. The Plesnik family first opened a hotel on this site in 1932, which was destroyed during the Second World War. In 1995, the family rebuilt and reopened Hotel Plesnik, combining traditional Alpine architecture with modern wellness facilities and an infinity pool overlooking the stunning alpine landscape. The hotel quickly became a hub for high-profile political, business, and cultural gatherings, hosting notable guests including the presidents of Slovenia, Croatia and Austria during their 2015 trilateral meeting.

In 2017, Luxury Travel recognized Hotel Plesnik as one of the world’s finest boutique hotels, further cementing its reputation. This year, the hotel introduced a refreshed culinary offer created by chefs Janez Bratovž and Tom Čopar, rooted in traditional Plesnik family recipes and inspired by seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. The commitment to sustainability and authenticity was also acknowledged with the prestigious Michelin Green Star, which highlights restaurants leading the way in eco-conscious gastronomy.

Looking ahead, Hotel Plesnik plans a series of autumn events to further showcase the unique spirit of the Logar Valley and the family’s vision for sustainable tourism.
