There are several types of special venues in Slovenia. Below, we have listed some of the most prominent categories if you decide to organise your next event in Slovenia.
Historical Venues, Castles, Museums
Castles and museums are equally dispersed across Slovenia and complement the offer of major Slovenian meeting destinations. Among the most iconic venues is Bled Castle, suitable for hosting smaller receptions. In the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana Castle has the most developed offer. A very special place in the history of Slovenia, though, is occupied by Brdo Estate, which manages both Brdo and Strmol Castle. This year, the estate is home to most of the protocol events taking place as part of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2021.
Outdoor Venues and Gardens
During corona times, these have been the most sought after venues. Luckily, Slovenia is not short of such venues, which can be found all across the country. In Ljubljana, the open-air venue Križanke is the most popular one. Among other popular locations are golf courses, particularly Cubo Golf Course near Ljubljana, which specialises in events, and golf courses in Lipica and Bled. Another exceptional venue is the Ljubljana Botanical Garden. Various parks fall into this category, including Arboretum Volčji Potok near Ljubljana, the Ferrari Garden in Štanjel and several other locations within Brdo Estate.
Industrial Venues
Industrial buildings are often part of the cultural and technical heritage and represent an intriguing alternative to classic venues. Often, they stand out due to their size and spaciousness. Ljubljana’s industrial hall L56 in Litostroj is among the biggest in the city. Industrial venues can be found in all major cities. In Ljubljana, among the most popular industrial venues are the Old Power Station and the Railway Museum. Maribor is home to the largest wine cellar in this part of Europe, while Velenje is home to a coal mine, transformed into museum and a special venue.
Natural Attractions
Slovenia is probably one of the rare countries in the world where you can organise events in a breathtaking underground hall constructed by nature. The concert hall in Postojna Cave is the largest underground venue in the world, capable of hosting up to ten thousand attendees. It is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, also suitable for concerts of classical music. The category of natural attractions also encompasses vineyards, found in Goriška Brda or Zlati Grič in Slovenske Konjice.
Special Restaurants and Pubs
There are numerous restaurants specialised in hosting events in Slovenia. Restaurants with wine cellars that have adjusted their offer to congress guests are highly regarded. Such wine cellars are present throughout all Slovenian wine-growing regions. The culinary revolution in Slovenia has caused a boom of restaurants that can also host congress events. In any case, the right address for this part of the offer of venues is members of the Slovenian Convention Bureau, who offer suitable congress capacities.
Sport Venues
For large gatherings, sports facilities that often rent their space for events are a perfect choice. The largest such venue is Arena Stožice, which is the largest space for banquets in Slovenia. It can accommodate 3500 participants in a banquet setting. Slovenians are proud of the ski jumping hill Planica, home to a Nordic centre Planica alongside numerous event venues.
Pop-Up Venues
Pop-up venues in Slovenia have been popular for well over a decade. They enable event organisers the element of surprise when uncovering unusual venues. Many of them have, upon opening, become permanent event locations. In this category, Slovenia offers a sea of options; however, let the locations remain a surprise for now.
