The project Slovenia - European Region of Gastronomy 2021 is supported by experts who have been globally recognised for their achievements in cuisine and gastronomy, Dr Janez Bogataj, Luka Košir, Mira Šemić, and Ana Roš.



Dr Janez Bogataj (prof. dr.)

“We eat to live, but not live to only eat.”

A retired university professor, co-author of the Slovenian Gastronomy Strategy, the gastronomy strategies for Ljubljana and Central Slovenia, Gorenjska, and Dolenjska, co-author of projects for some successful brands in gastronomy. Author and co-author of more than 80 books, numerous discussions, articles, and popular works in the field of cuisine and gastronomy. Five of his books received Gourmand World Cookbook awards. He is a member of the group of IGCAT experts (Barcelona), Slovenia’s ambassador in the European Destination of Excellence network, and Conseiller Gastronomique at Chaîne des Rôtisseurs de Slovénie. He lectures and publishes articles in Slovenia and abroad.

Luka Košir

“I work in the food and hospitality industry because I do it with joy, with heart. There is no need to create fairy tales.”

Luka Košir is among the ten best chefs in Slovenia. At his family restaurant, Brunarica, in Šentjošt nad Horjulom, he has been developing dishes that are based on principles of sustainability, sustainable production, and local food. Most of the food is produced by the family, they also have a duck farm, and they connect with other local producers (e.g. with a local cheese dairy). Košir has a very positive public image and excellent culinary knowledge, which he constantly refreshes by studying the latest world gastronomic literature.


Mira Šemić

“Water is necessary for life, and wine for joie de vivre.”

She is a world-class Slovenian culinary and wine expert, a sommelier with a level 4 diploma from the renowned WSET wine school in London, an author of numerous articles on cuisine and wines, the director of the Gault & Millau Slovenia culinary guide, and a lecturer at her own Little Wine School (Mala šola vina) in Ljubljana. She was also the owner of the Monroe restaurant in Ljubljana, which was one of the first restaurants to co-create Slovenia’s modern cuisine. She presented the wealth of wine next to works of art by renowned artists at her Art and Wine Gallery in Ljubljana. As a great wine connoisseur with the title Weinakademiker, she has visited all significant wine-growing areas and numerous excellent restaurants on all continents.


Ana Roš

The best female chef in the world according to the World’s 50 Best Restaurants academy.

The best female chef in the world according to the World’s 50 Best Restaurants academy. Ana Roš is The World's 50 Best Female Chef 2017! Her cuisine is known for innovatively re-writing traditional recipes from the Soča Valley and using local ingredients. It is with the use of local ingredients that Ana Roš has been contributing to the development of the local environment and preserving tradition. It is important for farmers and other food producers to know that they can rely on their customers. Ana Roš is an advocate of the ‘0 km’ philosophy, which results in a sustainable, fresh, and environmentally friendly story.
