For almost 20 years, the Slovenian Tourist Board has been promoting innovativeness in Slovenian tourism and supporting the development of innovative products and inventive projects. The Sejalec and Snovalec calls for applications awarding creative ideas and products of destinations and providers were in the forefront until 2020. In 2021 the Sejalec and Snovalec calls were merged with the call for Slovenia Unique Experiences. 

In the light of the increased focus on the recovery of Slovenian tourism, the existing calls for 5-Star Experiences, Sejalec and Snovalec have been renewed and merged in 2021. With the renewed call for Slovenia's unique experiences, we aim to achieve a greater focus on high quality experiences with strong market potential.

Sejalec

The title Sejalec is awarded to experiences which have a high market potential and which, with a permanent and high-quality offer, are ready for domestic and foreign guests, successfully contribute to increasing the visibility of Slovenia's tourist offer and will be able to bring added value to Slovenian tourism in the shortest possible time.

Experiences that are included in the SUE (Slovenia Unique Experience) collection are in the running for the title of Sejalec. The panel of experts assesses the experiences included in the SUE collection through the elements of sustainability, authenticity, uniqueness, innovation and commercial potential. It then selects and awards the title of Sejalec (to the experience that receives the highest score). The second and third highest priced experiences will be awarded the title of finalist Sejalec.

Elements of assessment for the title Sejalec:

  • SUSTAINABILITY (the experience has a responsible attitude towards nature and the local community, while encouraging the guest to act sustainably)
  • AUTHENTICITY (the experience offers a genuine, original experience and includes local identity)
  • UNIQUENESS (the experience is unique, it includes elements that can only be experienced in Slovenia or in the region)
  • INNOVATION (an experience represents an innovation in tourism that is well planned)
  • MARKET POTENTIAL (the experience is designed according to the needs of the modern discerning guest who is willing to pay a given price for the experience)

SEJALEC 2022

SECRET ROOMS OF THE HOTEL JAMA, Postojnska jama d. d. 

Dramatically imagined and historically original product gives an exclusive insight into the long-silenced and hidden spaces inside the iconic Jama Hotel. The experience takes place in the secret underground of the Postojna Cave Park, where a separate communication centre used to operate. 

The contents are authentic, as both the rooms and the associated furniture remain intact, and the materials found are authentic copies of the originals. The tension is created by secret recording that allow visitors to eavesdrop. The experience can accommodate a limited number of people and you are not allowed to document the guided tour by taking photographs. The product is unique not only locally, but also more broadly, because through its content the visitor unwittingly enters the Cold War era, the tense political events of the Eastern Bloc countries. 

The strategic location of the secret rooms in the immediate vicinity of the most visited karst cave in the world, represents a great market potential and added value not only for the hotel, but for the destination as a whole.

THE FINALISTS OF TITLE SEJALEC 2022 

MEDITERRANEAN FISH COOKING WORKSHOP, Fonda d. o. o. 

The Mediterranean Fish Cookery Workshop is an educational experience, with a strong experiential edge. It brings practical skills to guests and high added value to the destination.The product's operator is a biologist who, through her family's story, emphasises loyalty to local identity and a consistent concern for ecology and sustainability in fish farming. The experience takes place on the edge of the protected area of the Sečovlje Salt Pans Landscape Park, overlooking the only marine fish farm in Slovenia, reinforcing the concern for the protection of the fragile salt pans ecosystem. Through a personalised experience, awareness is raised of the importance of locally produced food, which becomes an added value for both the destination and the local community.Designed for a limited number of people, the experience represents another level in the development cycle of the Fonda brand, which is holistic, authentic, innovative and with great commercial potential.

MELODY OF FOREST, Turistična agencija HIKEANDBIKE Gregor Šilc s. p. 

The melody of the forest is one of the most subtle and reverent experiences of the forest landscape in our country. The product teaches the visitor how to recognise, understand and hear the resonant wood of Pokljuka as one of Slovenia's greatest natural treasures. 

Throughout the experience, the forest is imaginatively presented, not as a material asset, but as a living cultural landscape that teaches the guest the art of relaxation. Visitors walk barefoot through a forest bath, and through the music of the trees and meditation in hammocks, they get to know the forest space and themselves intensively. Through the experience, one enters directly into the living space of the two performers, where the disappearing handicraft skills of the local environment are revitalised, making the experience a tribute to the living cultural heritage of Bohinj and to the Pokljuka spruce, which will completely disappear from these parts over the centuries due to climate change.

Such experiences divert the flows from Bohinj to more remote destinations and at the same time raise awareness of the fragile ecosystem.The melody of the forest subtly reminds the visitor how alive, loud and fragile a system the forest really is - after humans have fallen silent.
