Mušič – Landscapes of the Bodies at Dobrovo Castle

Mušič – Landscapes of the Bodies at Dobrovo Castle

Exhibition of the renowned painter and printmaker Zoran Mušič at Dobrovo Castle.

As part of the War and Peace programme, we present the renowned painter and printmaker Zoran Mušič, born in Bukovica near Nova Gorica. The first exhibition in the series, Mušič Room, is presented at Xcenter since February, the exhibition at the Lojze Spacal Gallery in Štanjel will be opened since 12 Aprila, and in May the display of Mušič's Zurich Room will be available at Palazzo Attems in Gorizia.

"For me, humanity is no better than yesterday. We are witnessing the same suffering. In these paintings, I return to something that is always present and unacceptable, like the Karst earth, which is barely alive, yet exists, always the same, whatever the season. We are not the last. It is not just Dachau." (Zoran Mušič)

With the drawings from Dachau in 1945 and the prints and paintings from the Vegetative Motifs and We Are Not the Last series, we enter the landscape of the dead and dying, where life has turned into piles of corpses, and with The Self-Portraits, The Portrait of Ida, Double Portraits, The Traveller, The Philosopher, The Sitting, The Naked, we enter the artist's final period, when the body becomes like a slight breath. The paintings from his last period are pictures of his soul: wounded, affected, suffering, full of creative desire and doubts. He survived Dachau. And he created a beautiful interplay of landscapes of bodies and bodies of landscapes.
