Giro d’Italia returns to Brda in 2025

On Saturday, May 24, Goriška Brda, together with the Italian part of Brda, Collio, and Nova Gorica with neighbouring Gorizia, will host the iconic pink ribbon of the Giro d’Italia. The 108th edition of this internationally renowned cycling race, Italy's biggest sporting event, will once again draw the attention of millions worldwide.

The 14th cross-border stage promises breathtaking views as the cycling caravan winds through the region’s exceptional hills, blanketed with vineyards, fruit orchards and olive groves. Cyclists will enter Slovenia at Plešivo, passing through picturesque Brda villages—Medana, Dobrova, Šmartno, Kojsko, and Hum—before returning to Italy for a few kilometres and heading through Števerjan to the vibrant finish in Nova Gorica.

November is dedicated to wine, as St. Martin's Day, celebrated on November 11, holds special significance in Slovenia. Known as "Martinovanje," this festive occasion is deeply rooted in Slovenian traditions and customs.

Also, did you know that Maribor is home to the oldest vine in the world. At more than 450 years, it is the only plant boasting its own museum – the Old Vine House. Maribor hosts a number of events celebrating the Old Vine, such as the Pruning of the Old Vine, St. Martin’s Day, and the Old Vine Festival. Believe it or not, the Old Vine even has its own anthem, and the locals are only too keen to let you hear it.

ULAY / MARINA ABRAMOVIĆ ART VITAL in Cukrarna

The Cukrarna Gallery in Ljubljana will host a landmark exhibition showcasing the groundbreaking collaborative works of performance artists Marina Abramović and Ulay, set to open on November 30, 2025. Supported by the City of Ljubljana, Ljubljana Tourism and the Slovenian Tourist Board, this exhibition is a major event in the contemporary art world.

The exhibition will offer an in-depth, multilayered exploration of the unique and often daring collaborative works and personal lives of Abramović and Ulay, spanning their partnership from 1976 to 1988. ART VITAL will feature a variety of events designed to deepen the understanding of their work, including re-enactments, film screenings and discussions.
