Facsimile of the Statute of the town of Ptuj

Primož Premzl is a publishing and gallery company founded in the year 1992. Till now there have been 22 books pertaining to the history of art and history books published and edited; the most significant is a complete facsimile of the Statute of the town of Ptuj dating from the year 1376. This is the oldest reproduction manuscript book in Slovene publishing. At the exhibition of Slovene facsimiles, in the frame of the 20th book fair in Ljubljana in 2004 the Ptuj statute was placed in the selection of fourteen best quality facsimiles published in Slovenia between 1909 and 2004.

Maribor veduta

In the year 2000 the guidebook for Maribor and the surroundings pertaining to the history of art was proclaimed as the best quality manual for that year in Slovenia. The book Mariborske vedute can, without thinking twice, be proclaimed as the most distinguished book about former Maribor; it was published on the occasion of Maribor’s 750th anniversary. The collection of ampelographic pictures by Vinzenz and Conrad
Kreuzer is, by world standards, a unique cultural heritage, which is kept at the Agricultural-Forestry Institute in Maribor. It was only when the book was published that the collection became known to the public. In the most important wine growing regions of the world the book achieved unbelievable publicity from the newspapers and resounding television programs. It has been placed in the bibliography on the history of
viticulture and wine trade by Renate Schoene, which issues 60.000 copies per month. In the study of European ampelographic history is has become an indispensable source. In the year 2005 in Switzerland a book by Marcel Aeberhardt Geschichte der alten Traubensorten with a picture appendix of Kreuzer’s ampelographic pictures was published.

Primož Premzl, winner of the Glazer award, publisher and editor, and art gallery owner

Premzl is also the co-author of some other publications and author of the watchword for picture postcards in the Encyclopaedia Slovenia. In the year 2002 he received the Glazer award for his special achievements in the field of culture. His personal home collection, which he created in the year 1983, includes more than 10.000 units of old veduta graphics, plans, drawings, photographs and postcards of Maribor and its nearby
surroundings from the 17th to the middle of the 20th century and it is a richer collection than those in the archives and museums, which have to collect and preserve this kind of material. On account of that Premzl’s private collection has become an invaluable source of picture material for researches on Maribor’s history. In his Umetniški kabinet, which from 9th December 1993 until 31st December 2005 was in the square Grajski trg
and from April 2006 on is in Slovenska ulica 8, Primož Premzl contributes as a publisher and editor as well as the owner of an art gallery, a significant share to the cultural image of the city by the river Drava.
