The wall was built in the 3rd century AD by the Romans to protect their empire against incursions by foreign tribes. The wall, known as the Pagan wall, extended from Reka in Croatia, via Babno Polje in southernmost Slovenia towards the North. In the region between Verd, Zaplana and Logatec, there were probably 60 guard towers. Wall remnants in the form of long piles of stone can be seen around Strmica.
