Ponikva is most famous for being the birthplace of the only Slovenian Blessed – Anton Martin Slomšek.
Some people know it for the railway station of the same name on the way from Celje towards Maribor, around which are numerous plantations of apples and on a hill, the Church of St. Ožbolt.
However, in the settlement of Ponikve stands also the Church of St. Martin – a pearl of Baroque art and in front of it, the office of tourist and embellishing association. On your way back to the railway station you can also stop in the settlement of Hotunje, and if you arrange your arrival in advance, you can visit Debeljak where stands the statue of the world famous cartographer Blaž Kocen.
In the spring days you can view a unique greater pasque flower (Pulsatilla grandis) or you can walk along the Slomšek path (Slomškova pot) or stop at a tourist farm and enjoy the remains of the day there.
In honour of their protector St. Martin, the tourist association organises St. Martin's Days each year.
