The name Opatje Selo was given to the village by the Benedictine monks
from the abbey in Štivan. The village is divided in two areas: Marušičev
konec and Pahorjev konec. On the road to Miren is being built a new
settlement. The village economy is rather well developed so the village
has also an industrial zone. In the centre of the village is parish church of
St Andrej. In the Nord is the border crossing Lokvica-Devetaki.
A path that leads past here gained its name “Mačja reber” after the hamlet Mačiče of which remained only ruins.
In the village surroundings are several side paths. Once here were five
roads that led to the sea and the Karst road, which was used for transporting mail.
The villagers arranged a place for various events a few years ago.
Automobiles : The village is situated on
the main road Miren –
Kostanjevica, right by the
national boundary with
Italy.
