North of this lumpy village are several passes and peaks of the Karst ridge. The village has some well-preserved typical Karst houses and a chapel, which is leaned against a wall, encircled with a stone portal and closed with an iron door. Once the people of Novelo dug gravel on Ljušce. Novelo is the birth village of a renowned historian dr. Miroslav Pahor (1922-1981). He was very active during the NOB although he became disabled during the war. He arranged the research library in Koper and renovated the town museum and maritime collection in Piran. He also studied the history of the Slovene coastal zone.
