The village was first mentioned in the year of 1202. Its characteristics are small squares; old inn Čotnik has monumental (historical) value. In the vicinity there are Karstic abysses, ice caves, dol and numerous sinkholes. In the yard in the village there is the entrance to the 22 m long and 9 m deep Kurinčeva cave. In the middle of the village there is the church of Sv. trojica with the bell tower on PRESLICA, the paintings in the interior of the church are painted by painter Raspet and are dating back to the year of 1868. Under grassy Gabrk, below Vremščica, there is a small airport which was used for military purposes already in the time of Austrian empire and during the Italian occupation. That is why it is know as the oldest airport in our country.

Automobiles : At crossroad Ljubljana-Koper and Sežana-Ilirska Bistrica turn for Ilirska Bistrica. Dolnje Ležeče is located right after the bridge.
