The KRAINZ winery was originally founded in the 19th century. After World War 2 the property was nationalised, but in 2002 the property was returned to the founder’s grandnephew, Dr Peter Weigl, and so is once again in family hands.

Now some 24 hectares of vineyard are being replanted and modernised. Grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Rheinriesling, Chardonnay, Welschriesling, Šipon (Furmint), Pinot Blanc, Traminer, Pinot Noir and Blaufränkisch are being successfully grown on loess.

The careful application of modern production techniques combined with the distinct terroir of the Luttenberg – Jeruzalem region together mean that once again the land is producing great wines.
