If you want to know why bees sting, how they communicate, what a honeycomb looks like, and what tools a beekeeper needs, visit the Beekeeping Education Trail on Cerknica Lake. It runs on the Goričica island in the middle of the mysterious disappearing and changing Cerknica Lake. It is furnished with educational plaques and offers basic information about bee societies, the life of bees, their food, bee products, diseases of the bees, the history of beekeeping, nectar producing plants, types of honey, and the healing effects of honey. The trail begins in Pretržje between Dolenje Jezero and Otok at the bee-house of the Cerknica Beekeeping Association. The trail is only 250 meters long, but the tour takes one and a half hours. You can get homemade honey and honey products at the bee-house on the Education Trail.
