Water from the steep slopes of the Karavanke flow and unite to form the Tržiška
Bistrica river, a left tributary of the Sava. Its bed has a large drop leading to its having torrential characteristics. The water is cold, of an extremely transparent, specific blue green colour. The water is fully productive and inhabited by the brown trout and rainbow trout which reach enviable sizes.
A little further to the east, the Kokra river has cut a valley for itself high in the Kamnik Alps. It is relatively easy to get to and fish, while only in Kranj, just before it joins the Sava, it dips into a canyon that is somewhat harder to access. Its upper reaches are inhabited by the brown trout, accompanied by the rainbow trout. From Preddvor downstream, the river affords habitat to the grayling as well.
