Savinja, Dreta, Šmartinsko jezero, Slivniško jezero

In the Rinka Waterfall’s 90-metre jump over rocks the Savinja river is born in Logar valley. More than half of its 95-kilometre reach is inhabited by those species of fish most interesting to the fly-fishermen. These include brown trout and grayling, which are joined by rainbow trout and huchen at Ljubno.
Fly-fishermen find the Savinja most beautiful in the upper parts of the valley. When spring carries off the melt waters, the second half of May is a pure pleasure for dry fly fishing. The fish are not very selective and successful fishing continues into June. The water level drops with the arrival of the hot days of summer and the fish get fussier. Now successful dry-fly fishing is restricted to morning and evening hours, but there is no limit to nymph fishing.
The Dreta river is a friendly, calm sub-alpine river. Brown trout, rainbow trout and grayling are fish that fly-fishermen focus on. It is an easily accessible and very fishable stretch of water.
Along the Savinja, there are numerous accumulations of varying sizes, intended above all for sporting fishing of cyprinids. Angling and bottom-fishing are the main fishing methods. However, spinners are also rewarded with record catches of wels, pike and pike-perch at Šmartinsko jezero (Lake) near Celje and Slivniško jezero (Lake) a little further east, near Šentjur.
