The viewing path Dolžan gorge leads along the banks of the river Tržiška Bistrica within the framework of the natural monument of the same name, which is famous mainly for its diverse geologic foundation, picturesque waters and steep rocky pyramids. It is rare that we find so many tree, shrub and vegetable species in one area, here we can find 23 tree and at least 15 shrub species.

In its first part the viewing path leads along the right river bank, the first point of interest along the path is the Jamenšnik homestead dating from the year 1766. There is also a drying house for linen and fruit called ''paštba'' adjacent to the homestead.  Today it houses a mosaic display of the cultural and natural heritage of this area. This part of the path does not only offer a pleasant walk through a mainly  beech forest,  and views of the rocky pyramids, it is also interesting to look under one's feet as we walk across several million years of history of Mother Earth along this path. The stones, red sandstone and trbiška breccia are only two of them.

In the narrowest part of the gorge there was once a path across the Tržiška Bistrica river which went across the bridge, made of willow branches, and through a small tunnel to the small village of Jamé. Rising water washed it away several times and therefore Baron Julius Born, the owner of the forest had a tunnel built in the narrowest part of the gorge in 1885, so enabling easier transport of people and wood to the valley.

The geological pillar is one of the central points of the Slovenian Geological Transversal and displays the stone structure of the Dolžan Gorge and entire area surrounding Tržič. We return to the starting point along the road, however we suggest stopping at the 13th point of the Slovenian Geological Path. This point brought world wide fame to Dovžan Gorge as 81 kinds of brachiopods were discovered here, of these 21 new species, and you can view some examples of fossils at the geolgical pillar, the central part of the Slovenian Geological Path or at the13th point along the path, where there is plenty of gravel rich with fossil marine life.

After our walk we can take refreshment at Gostilna Pr'Krvin, which is located at  Slap (crossroads for the Dolžan Gorge and Lom pod Storžičem), where in the summer months it is especially  pleasant in the garden in the shade of large chestnut trees.
