Access : The Plavica herbal farm is situated in the picturesque Črmošnjica Valley below Kočevski Rog. It's not quite as isolated as it sounds: only 100 m as the crow flies our farm to the Žužemberk - Črnomelj main road and only 800 m by road. We are 4 km from Dolenjske Toplice through the settlement Podturn and 2.5 km along a paved road across from Dobrava. There is also a paved road across Podturn and Grič and so our farm can even be reached by large buses.
The farm is located on 200m above sea level and, due to the vast forests of Kočevski Rog, its climate is equivalent to 800m above sea level. We like to say that we are located between two churches. On the north side there is a solitary Church of Holy Trinity (sv. Trojica) on the little hill called Cerovec, and on the south-west there stands a mighty Pilgrimage Church of the Mary of Assistance of the Kočevje region.

Plavica is the Slovenian name for the cornflower (centaurea cyanus), a magnificent herbal flower which used to grow in and adorn our wheat fields. However, herbicides and artificial fertilizers drove it completely away. On our farm, it is grown in the park to keep it in remembrance and on we take pleasure in explaining to our visitors the healing effects of this flower, which is depicted on the sign of our farm as well. The principal activity of our farm is driven by our love of healing plants. We grow them in a large garden and one can see more than 300 species of healing plants on our farm throughout the whole year. Cultivated species are displayed in garden beds, regional species can be viewed in gardens as well as in the wild throughout the whole year. Here you can find trees, shrubbery as well as healing plants or flowers. We try hard to keep everything well-regulated and marked.
You will not pick healing plants on our farm but you will get to know them. A professional guide will guide you along a path and tell you everything about the plants and their usage. You will also get to know the most poisonous Slovenian plants used by the pharmacy for the production of medicine, but obviously it is better to avoid them. You will be warned of the most frequent mistakes which led to poisoning fatalities in the past.
We will teach you how to prepare healing plants for you and your family. You have all heard of different tinctures, herbal ointments, oils, wines, herbal vinegars and herbal liqueurs. We will teach you to make tea and cold extracts properly. If you are interested we can take you along a longer herbal path and organise visits of both churches for you.
