The first known record of the village dates back to the year 1200. The name presumably derived from the Illyrian name kripa, meaning a rock or a mass of rocks; this also gave the name to krepake, a dry and unfertile landscape. In the centre of the village, stands the church of St. Notburga (patroness of labour, cattle and agriculture products) from the 18th century. The villagers pray for her blessing as the majority of them is employed in wine-growing. Not far away is an old arch with the inscription ˝This portal was made by Luka Brundula in the period of the French army, under Caesar Franz 1809˝ and a distinct pear-shaped well from 1877. During WW I, a standard narrow railway was constructed to carry the ammunition directly to the front.
