The village is situated on a hill and has a typically dense village centre, with a church dedicated to St. Michael. Its first record dates back to the year 1300, when it was supposedly under the rule of the counts of Šta- njel. In the village of Merce (between Kobjeglava and Štanjel) there are findings from the Hallstadt period, while remains from the Neolithic were excavated near the Jelenca cave. A uniquely modelled NOB monument, representing a burnt Karst home, stands in memory of the Second World War. There are two theories regarding the origin of the village’s name. The first one is connected to the highest hill Kop, rising above the village, therefore Kobjeglava supposedly developed from Kop-je-glava (Kop is the head). However, the second theory is based on stables or to be more precise to mares (Slovene kobila), which later on supposedly developed into Kobjeglava (mare’s head).

Automobiles : The village is situated along the Komen – Štanjel regional road.
