Dobrova lies at the junction of the roads to Horjul and
Polhov Gradec. It is the administrative centre of the municipality. According to oral tradition, the settlement is named after a 1000-year-old oak tree that was cut down in 1888.
The names of the nearby hill Gradišče and farmer Gradišnik indicate that the people who settled the area were of Old Slavic origin. St Mary’s Church, with many answered prayers, was very popular among religious people, so it was a lively place of pilgrimage for many centuries.
None other than Governor of Carniola Jožef Poklukar, Ph.D., owned a villa in Dobrova. Slovenian impressionists would look for inspiration there. Still today, Dobrova holds a special place in the municipality.
Between the Horjul and Prosca valleys rises the wooded peak
Ključ (623 m).
