The tour starts at the Jochmann Mill on the River Hubelj in Ajdovščina. This very mill was once considered as the mightiest cylinder mill in the entire Empire. The tour leads past the remnants of the Roman fortress Castra and the Old Paper Mill and continues on along the Vilhar Street (Vilharjeva ulica) to the Pale Sports Park. There you have the opportunity to visit the Ajdovščina Youth Hostel and to view the exhibition on the technical heritage of Ajdovščina.

In the park Pale take the Forest Educational Path that winds northwards along the River Hubelj on its right bank. On your way you can see the remnants of an old power plant once run by a successful business man August Nussbaum. In 1837 nearby the power plant August Nussbaum established also a saw mill that cut veneer as well as a mill for grinding dye materials. Not far from the power plant the path crosses the River Hubelj and you cross the ancient border between the Gorizia and the Carniola regions. The further north you go, the further in the past you travel.

Do not miss the remnants of a rolling mill and pay close attention to the once majestic iron foundries, which are the highlight of the technical heritage found along the River Hubelj. The source of the River Hubelj is just a few steps away from the foundries. There you can revel in the river’s beauty and rest for a while in the nearby restaurant.

Tour duration: 90 minutes
*Upon agreement a lunch in the restaurant Pri Izviru Hublja at the source of the River Hubelj can be arranged.
