The Vimpolšek family farm is located on the outskirts of Brežice, surrounded by meadows, fields and a forest. The owners have embraced integrated farming methods in growing produce and vegetables; they also grow free-range poultry and pigs and are known as excellent winemakers – no wonder then that there are always delicious aromas wafting from their kitchen.
The hostess still prepares dishes based on her grandmother's recipes. Some of the traditional dishes found on the menu are smoked pork shank with sauerkraut and buckwheat žganci, osukana župa (a type of soup) with cracklings, posiljeno zelje (a cabbage dish) with beans, white polenta with cracklings, buckwheat cake… And this is just a small part of their rich and varied culinary offer. Vegetarians are well provided for. The Vimpolšeks will also offer their guests their excellent wine.
The farm is children-friendly and has a children's playground. The hosts can also teach you how to make hay using a scythe and how to thrash grains.
The farm is an excellent starting point for visiting the castle in Brežice, the swimming pools in Terme Čatež, the church of St. Vid, the castle and golf course in Mokrice and repnicas (caves dug into siliceous sand for storing crops) in Bizeljsko.
