The Upper Dolenjska Wine Road leads through the municipalities of Trebnje, Sevnica, Krško, and Škocjan. In the Municipality of Sevnica, the Wine Road runs from Tržišče via Malkovec, Vodale, Telče, Primož, Hubajnica, Zavratec and Rovišče to Raka. The Wine Road is rich with views over the Krka River Valley and the Gorjanci mountains on one hand and toward the Savinjske Alps, Mount Kum, Mount Lisca, Mount Bohor, and the Sava and Mirna rivers on the other. The entire road is pleasantly dotted with wine cellars, wine shops, and tasting cellars, but you can also buy fresh and dried fruit, homemade fruit vinegar, and vegetables. Visit a “black kitchen” and a classic wooden wine press. Along with good Dolenjska food such as sausages, smoked “plečka,” homemade “želodec” with horseradish, stew with buckwheat žganci, and fresh bread from the open oven, they serve Modra Frankinja, Žametna Črnina, and of course Dolenjska’s famous Cviček wine. You will recognize the “Cviček” villages of Malkovec, Slančji vrh, Bojnik, Dedna Gora, Preska, and Rovišče by the sound of accordions and singing.
