The Zdenc-Vidovec Karst Education Trail begins in the middle of a village and runs to the spring in the 78-meter long Zdenc cave with the statue of Mary of Lourdes.
Zdenc is one of the most beautiful Bela krajina spring caves and bears witness to the great dependence of man on the karst springs. The locals dammed the small stream flowing from the cave to make a laundry area and a watering place for cattle at the entrance to the cave.
Continue on the marked trail to the Vidovec spring cave. The ground of Bela krajina’s longest cave (270 m) is covered with thick layers of deposited clay, which makes it impossible to explore the cave without caving equipment.
Along the Vidovec stream, head for the Kolpa River and Magdalenska Wall, a cliff with the Baroque Church of Sv. Magdalena from the 14th century with paintings by the Idrija artist Jurij Tavčar. The locals call the Božakova farm the “Bela krajina Bled” because of the Magdalenska Wall above the canyon of the Kolpa River.
To conclude the trail, drink a toast with the villagers in the nearby vineyard cottage in the middle of the village ...
