This trail explores the production of milk products on the farms of Bohinj, Bled, and Kranjska Gora.
Description:
The trail will lead you across the Pečana, Krstenica, Velo polje, Konjščica, Uskovnica, Praprotnica, Zajamniki, and Goreljek alpine meadows. At mountain farms and alpine dairy farms you can taste or buy homemade milk products such as sour milk, cottage cheese, semi-hard cheese, “mohant,” raw butter, and much more. The dairy farmers live here, so they are “open” throughout the week.
As well as cheesemakers, you’ll also find many natural and cultural attractions along the way. Visiting at least one of the two Martuljek waterfalls is a must, as are the Grmečice waterfall, the Mostnica chutes and waterfall, the Ajdovski gradec archeological site, the Church of Sv. Janez, the remarkable Alpine Dairy Museum in Stara Fužina, the Oplenova House, Pokljuška luknja, the moving World War II monument in Srednja Radovna, the Pocarjeva Homestead, the Aljažev monument, and the Grajšica alpine meadow.
