The Šmihel cemetery is situated in the southern part of Novo mesto, next to a street leading towards Šmihel and Bircna vas. The cemetery chapel includes commemorative plates of the people who died in World war I and II or were killed in the Post-war period. The northern part of the cemetery includes a monument to the people who died in the World War II. There are also many tombs of the famous Slovenians at the Šmihel cemetery, such as Julija Primic, also known as Julija Scheuchenstuel, the poet Slavko Grum, the politician and the historian Fran Šuklje, the printer and publisher Janez Kranjc from Novo mesto and many others.
