The Academy for Young Travel Journalists is a project of FIJET Slovenia – The Association of Travel Journalists and Writers. The purpose of the project is to raise the level of knowledge of young travel journalists who, through their work, can contribute to better awareness and, primarily, environmental and ecological awareness of the public. Another objective is the integration of travel journalists and Slovenian experts and educational institutions in the area of tourism. Therefore, the Academy is held in Slovenian towns where there are registered seats of institutions with programmes for catering and tourist education.

The first Academy was organised in Bled and the second one in Portorož; in 2012, the Academy will be organised in Maribor, which will be the European Capital of Culture. There are also discussions that the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) will support the project. Therefore, the organisers are already accepting proposals for seminars, lecturers and field reviews of good practice for the upcoming Academy.
