The church of St. Mary of Alieto in the Manzioli Square is the oldest church in Izola and it is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Because of its characteristic Romanic construction they presume it dates in the second half of the 11th century.
Inside the church there are three altars, a wooden choir, and an organ of Nakič, one of the most renowned organ builders from Venice. The church’s special feature is its octagonal composition with a cross-shaped vaulted ceiling, which makes it unique and the only one in the area.
