Church of St. John (sv. Janez), Hum pri Ormožu

Župnijski urad Ormož, Skolibrova ulica 15 2270 Ormož

The Church of St. John occupies the peak of the 301-metre-high hill of Hum. It originated in the place where the chapel used to stand and was built by the Ormož Castle lord Ladislav Pethe in the year 1611 in traditional post Gothic style.  The bell tower in front of the west facade is an extension from the first half of the 18th century, while the vault in the nave and the vestry are from the beginning of the 19th century. Until that time there was a graveyard around the church, which today lies on the south slope of Hum. The church, comprised of a narrower and lower three-eighths ended presbytery, preserves its neo-Gothic fittings from the end of the 19th century. The line of the former Roman road Poetovio – Savaria used to lead past the foot of the hill of Hum on the south side, and on the north slope are the remains of the quarry of Lithuania limestone.
