In 1939, a wooden chapel was erected on the initiative of the herdsmen and dairymaids of Velika planina. The carpeters modelled the chapel on the surrounding unique Alpine dairy farms. In 1945, the chapel and 100 other dairy farms were burned down by German soldiers. A new chapel was built in 1988 and blessed by Alojzij Šuštar which was the Slovene archbishop and metropolitan at that time. Each Christmas, the magical midnight Mass attracts a crowd of people.
