Pilgrimage trails

A number of pilgrimage trails run across Slovenia, connecting major centres of pilgrimage. The most famous of these are the Basilica of Mary, Help of Christians in Brezje, Ptujska Gora and Sveta Gora above Solkan. The trails past these centres have grown more popular in recent years, having been incorporated into hiking trails or heritage trails. One such trail is the Hemma Pilgrimage Trail, named after St Hemma or Emma of Gurk. The trail continues into Austria. Two other trails, the Marian Pilgrimage Trail and the St Martin Trail, entering Slovenia from Austria and Hungary respectively, are gradually being developed.
