From a narrow originating valley Luknja at Prečna Temenica pours over into the spacious Zalog basin. Here, on a flat, the three-spring river appeases and forms long meanders and almost imperceptibly outfalls into Krka. Preserved riverflow, motley vegetation and inundated meadows jointly create a picturesque image of the surroundings, where we can find multiple endangered animal and herbal species.
Zalog basin used to be filled with thick layers of argil, which has been used for brickworking for centuries. Beside Zalog brickworks variegated aquatic living environments were created in excavated and flooded clay pits. They are distinguished by rich populations of aquatic insects, amphibians and above all aquatic birds. A part of old clay pits is being preserved due to its outstanding natural locality.
