Intelligent chatbot that helps you discover the coastal towns of Portorož and Piran

Together with the digital agency April 8, Portorož Tourist Association has launched Pino, an intelligent chatbot, onto the market.

Pino “resides” at his own Facebook profile and chats with you via Facebook Messenger. In the future, he will also find a home at www.portoroz.si. The aim is also to use it at fairs and tourist information offices. For now, Pino communicates only in English, but there are plans to launch it also in Slovene, Italian and German. He has a great knowledge about accommodation, activities at the destination, general information regarding events, weather and guided tours. It will also tell you about the favourite hidden spots around Piran, where to drink the best coffee in Portorož, how to find the nearest parking space, and advise you on child-friendly activities.

The project utilizes state-of-the-art Watson Assistant cognitive solution technology by IBM and integrates it into the field of tourism. The greatest challenge of the project was preparing the contents, from which the intelligent robot can learn. A lot of attention has also been given to Pino’s personality: he is a local, a pure Istrian. Slovenian Istria has been home to Pino’s ancestors and also Pino’s relatives live here – in the nearby villages and sea-side towns.

Within a month, after the campaign has started, Pino has reached 45,000 local people and visitors. 300 people have talked to Pino and received 1,740 advices. Most questions referred to events at the destination.
