The trail’s starting point is the village of
Planina pod Golico (leave the Ljubljana – Kranjska Gora road near Jesenice). The trail leads you past the little
Church of Sv. Križ (“Holy Cross”), which as built in distant 1683 in memory of the victory over the Turks. Go to
Savske jame, which bears witness to the once rich sites of iron ore, and follow signposts along the forest path. At the old
karavla, a military fortification, turn right toward Mount Golica and from the
Markljev rovt alpine meadow begin climbing the marked trail across the pasture. After about a half hour’s walk uphill, you reach a new forestry road and
Sedla Suha. Here you can see a monument at the site where an American warplane crashed near the end of World War II. Leaving the road and walk beneath the Golica meadows, which in May become an ocean of blooming daffodils, to reach the
Koča na Golici mountain lodge. From here, you can reach the
peak of Golica (1,834 m) in half an hour. Descend on the marked path past a tourist farm.
