The village of Žlebe is located away from the bustle of the city but is still very convenient for an afternoon’s outing by the residents of Ljubljana.
From Medvode, which can also be reached by regular city buses, walk through Preska to Žlebe and continue on to the tops of Jeterbenk and Katarina and then follow the circular trail past Mamovec back to Žlebe. There are two streams running through the village, both rich with trout that are increasingly threatened by the herons. The main attractions of Žlebe are the waterfall and two rare flowers: the pasqueflower and Blagay’s daphne. The village is also known for the Hertenberg robber barons who supposedly hid their treasure somewhere below the 774-meter-high Mount Jeterbenk. You can take part in the traditional “On the Trails of the Robber Barons” hike and enjoy a guided visit to the Church of Sv. Marjeta, a Late Gothic building with a characteristic separate bell tower and an interesting old statue of Sv. Marjeta. There are four bells in the bell tower, and the top offers a wonderful view.
