Description of the itinerary:

Strolling around Bela krajina I (3 days):

Day 1: Arrival to Jugorje. Stop at the “border control” (fun programme), where you can purchase a Bela krajina “passport” that entitles you to discounts with various Bela krajina providers. We will then drive to the town of Metlika, visit the Bela krajina Museum and have a look at the winegrowing collections. In the castle cellar we will make a short stop for a coffee or a glass of excellent wine. Next we will visit Metlika Wine Cellar and try wines accompanied by the traditional Bela krajina flatbread. We will enjoy a typical Bela krajina dinner and spend the night at a tourist farm.

Day 2: After breakfast, a drive to the village of Drašiče. We will have a tour of Soseska zidanica, a communal wine cellar that has been operating for more than 250 years, and taste the neighbourhood wine. What follows is a hike to the winegrowing hills. During the walk you will be able to see some typical regional wine cellars known as “zidanicas” and taste wines in the largest private wine cellar in Slovenia. We will stop for a typical Bela krajina lunch at a tourist farm. Next we will drive to the largest Karst spring in Bela krajina – the source of the River Krupa. This will be followed by a tasting of fine regional sparkling wines. To round the day off, we will take a short walk through the Learning Garden of Dr Dreganc and return to the tourist farm. Dinner and bedtime.

Day 3: Following breakfast we will head to Črnomelj. We will look around the old town centre, the Municipal Museum Collection and Primožič House, which is dedicated to cottage industries. This will be followed by a wine tasting in Črnomelj Wine Cellar. The tour ends with lunch in a well-known guest house. Return home.

Strolling around Bela krajina I (5 days): 

Day 1: Arrival to Jugorje. Stop at the “border control” (fun programme), where you can buy a Bela krajina “passport” that entitles you to discounts with various Bela krajina providers. Next we will drive to the centre of Semič. We will look around the museum and winegrowing collections and go for a stroll around the Learning Garden of Dr Derganc. A short drive will then take us to a renowned winegrower for a wine tasting. We will settle in at a tourist farm located in the vicinity and have dinner. Bedtime.

Day 2: After breakfast we will go on a short walk to the source of the River Krupa. Then we will drive to the village of Rožanec and walk to the temple of the god Mithra. Another short drive will take us to a renowned winegrower, who also makes beer. There will be a merry get-together with wine and beer tasting as well as homemade cold cuts and flatbread. Afterwards we will head to a traditional Bela krajina house, where lunch will be had. Next on the programme is a drive to the Lahinja Landscape Park. As a welcome treat you will be served a typical buckwheat roll. We will visit the Information Centre with its over 200-year-old house and artisan workshop. Next we will drive to Črnomelj for a wine tasting in the Črnomelj Wine Cellar. Dinner will be had in a nearby guest house. Return to the tourist farm. Bedtime.

Day 3: After breakfast we will drive towards Metlika. We will make a short stop in the village of Otok to see the DC-3 airplane and picturesque forests. Arrival to the village of Drašiči. We will have a tour of Soseska zidanica, a communal wine cellar that has been operating for more than 250 years, and taste the neighbourhood wine. What follows is a longer hike in the winegrowing hills. During the hike we will stop for lunch and a wine tasting. In the evening we will enjoy dinner at Belokranjska hiša a well known guesthouse by the River Kolpa. Return to the tourist farm. Bedtime.

Day 4: After breakfast we will drive to the village of Rosalnice and take a look at three Gothic churches surrounded by a wall – Tri fare. A short drive away we will find the homestead of Mojca Kramarič, which offers a workshop on how to make Bela krajina flatbread and tastings of sweet delicacies. In the immediate vicinity we will visit a well-known winemaker for a wine tasting. Next we will enjoy lunch at a tourist farm. What follows is a drive to Radovica, where you can attend a lesson about Bela krajina at the “Clever Head” primary school. We will stroll to Krašnji vrh, a popular spot for locals and hikers alike. Aside from a mountain hut Krašnji vrh also has a 17-metre belvedere, which affords a view of the entire region of Bela krajina. In good weather you can see all the way to Klek in Croatia. Return to the tourist farm and dinner. Bedtime.

Day 5: Visit to a local beekeeper and a tasting of honey and homemade mead, followed by a sparkling wine tasting. The five-day tour of Bela krajina ends with lunch on a tourist farm.
