Despite rainy weather in May, tourism statistics trends were excellent especially regarding foreign visitors in Slovenia. In May 2013, 11% more tourist arrivals and 9% more tourist overnight stays were recorded than in May 2012. In the same comparison the number of foreign tourist arrivals and overnight stays increased by 14% and 13%, respectively, while the number of domestic tourist arrivals and overnight stays increased by 5% and 2%, respectively. The results for the first five months have thus improved after a couple of poor months and are almost the same as last year.
Two thirds of foreign tourist overnight stays
In May 2013 in Slovenia foreign tourists made 66% of tourist overnight stays. Key European markets, from which the most overnight stays of foreign tourists in Slovenia were recorded, were Austria (17% of all foreign overnight stays), Germany (16%), Italy (10%), the Russian Federation (6%), Serbia, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands (4% each).
As regards the most important tourism markets, in May 2013 tourists from the majority of markets made more overnight stays than in May 2012: from Serbia by 58%, from the Netherlands by 24%, from the United Kingdom and Germany by 19%, from Austria by 15% and from Italy by 9%. In the same comparison, tourists from the Russian Federation made 19% fewer overnight stays.
The Municipality of Ljubljana records the highest increase in tourist arrivals and overnight stays
Most tourists in May 2013 spent their nights in health (spa) resorts; 32% of all tourist overnight stays were recorded in these resorts. These resorts were followed by seaside resorts with a 22% share and by mountain resorts with a 20% share. The Municipality of Ljubljana recorded 13% of all tourist overnight stays.
A 24% increase was recorded in May 2013 in the Municipality of Ljubljana. In mountain and seaside resorts, 16% and 11% more tourist overnight stays were recorded, respectively. Health (spa) resorts recorded 1% more overnight stays than in May 2012.
Two thirds of tourist overnight stays in hotels
In May 2013 most of the tourist overnight stays were recorded in hotels (66% of all overnight stays), followed by camp sites (13%), apartment settlements and company vacation facilities and vacation facilities for youth (5% each) and private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings (3%).
Compared to May 2012, increases in the number of tourist overnight stays in May 2013 were recorded in hotels (by 5%), in apartment settlements (by 8%), in camping sites (by 21%) and in private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings (by 26%).
In the first five months of this year about the same number of tourist arrivals
In the first five months of this year, about the same number of tourist arrivals was registered in tourist accommodations as in the same period of the previous year. In the same comparison, the number of tourist overnight stays decreased by 2%. From January to May 2013, 2% more foreign tourist arrivals and 1% fewer overnight stays were recorded than in the same period of the previous year. The number of domestic tourist arrivals and overnight stays decreased by 2% and 4%, respectively.
