There are not many countries where you can walk and cycle in the midst of vast vineyards, hills and wine terraces. Experience the story of the Slovenian vine in Maribor, the second largest Slovenian town and the wine capital with the oldest vine in the world. The senior among the vines is almost half a Millennium old and grows in front of the Old Vine House. Events with a wine theme take place throughout the year and attract many fans of vintage wine.
The Old Vine is more than 400 years old and therefore the oldest vine in the world and the most recognised ethnographic sight in Maribor. The vine sort Žametovka or the Blue kavčina is one of the oldest domesticated noble vine sorts in Slovenia and still bears fruit each year, producing between 30 and 50 kilograms of grapes. Visit one of the most important European wine-growing regions and meet the mother of all vines.
Maribor – Pohorje Tourist Board has prepared a wide selection of wine experiences for you. Rent an electric bike and ride through the countryside, discover the Styrian culinary and wine delights provided by nine different tourist service providers, which are joined in the KULeBIKE project. An unforgettable experience is guaranteed. Wind between the hills of the Maribor region, where the conditions for vine growth are among the best in the world. The Styrian wines are certainly among the best in the country.
