Brezovica na Bizeljskem, 8259 Bizeljsko

There are still places, which can surprise and charm us. We are about to enter an anusual world of sand, so very special and still not discovered. Is it the nature’s wonder or just the work of man’s hands? Or is it both?
Nature was very generous in these places. Skilful locals of Brezovica, Bizeljsko, Pišece and Globoko recognized nature’s generosity and took what it offered, when it showed itself in small grains of flint-stone. “Repnice” were made, more than two hundred years old, and some of them exist until today.
“Repnice” are caves, dug in the flint-stone, which was washed up by the Pannonic sea millions of years ago. They got their name after turnip (=repa; repnice), because the locals stored turnip and some other produces of the field in them.
The sand caves are a part of autochthon, historical, ethnological and cultural heritage in this region. They became one of the most interesting sights on Bizeljsko-sremiška vine tourist road because of their use through the years and their unique formation.
