Luknja, originating valley of Temenica river, is one of the most mysterious and attractive destinations near Novo mesto due to its amazing natural beauty. Originating valley is distinguished by intertwining of natural and cultural heritage.
Gable end, which is thought to have been created by destruction of a cave ceiling, is enrichened by Temenica spring, Luknja cave, Jama behind the castle, a small natural window and Strašica abyss. All these natural phenomenon are installed in a forest which developed into many diversified forest communities. Natural beauty is accented by the exposed location of former Luknja castle, oldest hydroelectric plant in Dolenjska and a Venetian sawmill on the valley entry. The whole valley is protected as a natural monument.
