The Archival-Museum Service, the predecessor of the Historical Archive and Museum of the University of Ljubljana, was designed as a complex activity of several professional functions: an archive, museum, library and a source of documentation. That design suits the material which is formed in the framework of the operation of the university and the needs of the university as well as other local and foreign institutions.
The Historical Museum of the University of Ljubljana collects and preserves objects which are connected with the life and work of the university in the past and present; it supervises and documents immovable monuments and sights in the framework of the university, prepares exhibitions of collected material and handles it in other forms when dealing with the public (collections of scientific paper, articles, papers, photo albums and other).
The Historical Archive of the University of Ljubljana arranges and studies archival material which originates at the university or outside it.
The library specializes in collecting library material on higher education in Slovenia and abroad.
