A family doctor dr. Janez Šmid has created a collection of ethnological objects over his many years of service at Planina. Due to his interest in folk heritage which was deteriorating in front of his eyes, he started to collect things which belong to that area. The year 1974 especially stimulated him to do that when there was an earthquake in the area of Kozjansko and many took advantage of the people's distress to steal folk heritage from its original environment.
The collection is comprised of objects and tools used by people in everyday routines, from preparation of food in the 'black kitchen' to other household chores on Planina and its surroundings in the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection also comprises of objects and tools used during peasant works and farming, fruit and wine growing etc. Also objects which illustrate the Carnival and other habits are separately displayed.
To visit the museum you must reserve in advance, because the museum is not open regulary.
