The gallery exhibits the work of Veno Pilon, one of Slovenia’s greatest expressionist painters and graphic artists, mostly known as a portrait and landscape artist. The gallery was started in 1973 based on the legacy donated to the city by the artist’s son.
An extensive opus of Pilon’s works as well as an archive containing his manuscripts, correspondence, books, and personal objects is on display.
The designer of the renovated building, Ajdovščina architect Svetozar Križaj, received the Plečnik Award for his work in 1976.
