Poljana is a small hamlet spanning the river on the main Prevalje-Mežica road. Terraces are preserved on these typical basins, the remains of former lakes. The fine Gothic church of John the Babtist stands immediately by the road.
Most of Poljana is protected as the memorial region ?Freedom and Peace?. Immediately before the crossroads, where the road towards Holmec international border crossing and on into Austria turns off, there is a monument from Pohorje tonalite, commemorating the last battles in the second world war. On the left hand side of the road leading to Holmec, stands a monument to freedom and peace, the work of the sculptor, Stojan Batič. Its base is an exploded bomb shell from which doves, the symbol of peace, are emerging.
