Jurca peat marsh

Bevke
This is one of the few remaining places in Ljubljansko Barje, where a remnant of high moor is still present. High moor is defined as a moor containing peat and sphagnum, rising above an adjacent terrain. In the past peat marsh covered the majority of the Barje, but land drainage and cutting of the peat for heating in the 19th and 20th centuries has reduced that cover to a few isolated areas.
